Natalie – A bridal session in Sri Lanka

When I usually mention that I’ll be traveling to Sri Lanka, the first thoughts that come to people’s minds are usually the tsunami and the civil war. This is a real shame because Sri Lanka is an incredibly beautiful country, blessed with 4 seasons. It is diverse in scenery and offers some of the most stunning beaches and sunsets in this side of the world. When I got the opportunity to photograph a bridal session along the southern beaches of Unawatuna, I jumped at the chance. Boy, was I not disappointed.

I got off the plane, got in a car for 2 hours and arrived on the beach just a few hours before the sunset. This gave me enough time to scout for a remote area of the beach that offered a great backdrop with limited crowds. During this time, the bride was getting her makeup done by the talented Shebina at the hotel. To be honest, I was quite nervous as it had rained periodically throughout the day and I wasn’t sure if we would be getting a sunset at all. Luckily, the Sri Lankan gods answered my prayers and the clouds actually parted about 30 minutes before sunset. We couldn’t have asked for a more dramatic sky to photograph the bridal session. I highly urge you to visit Sri Lanka and put it high on your bucket list as it is truly a marvelous country.
