A love letter to Iceland

Dear Iceland,

It has been months since I’ve laid my eyes on you for the first time and yet your hold on my heart hasn’t wavered. I know I am not the first person to declare this and I certainly won’t be the last but I would like to say: I love Iceland – well most things Icelandic. I can definitely live without your overrated and over priced hot dogs. I promise you that they are not the best hot dogs in the world as others have made claim but when stuck at a gas station at 10am without food then it’ll get the job done but I digress. Your country is full of spoils and riches that cannot be fully enjoyed on a week long trip. You’ve given me every single thing an adventurous soul seeks on a trip – from wide open roads to snowcapped mountains to accessible glaciers to lava fields to fjords to to unique little towns (if you can even call them that) to beautiful Icelandic horses to mesmerizing waterfalls. We come from Canada, a country known for Niagara Falls but it seems to pale in comparison to your best foss (waterfall in Icelandic). You can’t turn your head without seeing them, some wildly popular and some still somewhat hidden. Have I mentioned your Arctic summer? Although we were there at the end of spring, we were blessed with almost 24 hours of daylight – a dream come true for any photographer. Can you say 3 hours of golden sunsets? Unfortunately, you are as beautiful as you are moody. The weather forecast means absolutely nothing to you. One minute you are shining with beautiful light and the next, you’re howling at us with hurricane-like wind and rain. I don’t know when we will have the chance to meet again but suffice to say I will be dreaming of you.
