Gavin & Kathy’s Engagement at Centre Island

Kathy and Gavin’s story didn’t begin in Toronto or on Centre Island. In fact, it began at Queen’s university where they studied chemical engineering. Luckily for Gavin, chemical engineering has a 1:1 ratio of male to female students unlike other engineering programs. At the time, they hung out in the same group of friends which made it more difficult for Gavin to ask Kathy out. Eventually, he did and the rest they say is history. Gavin eventually brought Kathy back to Kingston,ON and proposed to her in front of the house she resided in.

Kathy and Gavin are adventurous. Gavin is originally from Calgary while Kathy is from Toronto. Gavin, in his youth, would hike national park after national park from the Canadian Rockies to the American side along with his parents. He had so many tips and recommendations for our next visit to Banff and Jasper National Parks. We immediately bonded with this couple as they are such fun souls. We shared many hiking and traveling stories while waiting for our ferry across to the Toronto Islands. We only wished that we could have organized this engagement shoot in Banff instead of Toronto!

Centre Island

Centre island is still fairly crowded even on a spring afternoon. Everyone is looking for a little retreat from the big smoke and there is no better place than here. The two seemed pretty at ease from the beginning of the session. Gavin kept whispering to Kathy in cantonese so I couldn’t really tell you what was being said. I can tell you that it worked wonderfully as Kathy giggled and laughed the whole way through. Unfortunately, the spring has been very cold and the 30 or so cherry trees have not blossomed. We were however lucky enough to find what seemed like the one and only swan in the pond.
