It was almost exactly 7 years ago to the day when I met Floris on a backpacking trip in South East Asia. We were both young, dumb and searching for answers while traveling. We met in Laos and immediately hit it off and ended up being roommates for several days. I’ll never forget the day where we traveled to some rural part in Laos in search for a National Park. We boarded one of those tiny trucks and sat beside a monk, a man and his chicken. You never forget these type of moments. Shortly after returning home to the Netherlands, Floris met a young lady by the name of Esther at a conference. When they first met, Esther wasn’t too impressed by Floris. He tried to show off with his beach volleyball skills or lack there of but to no avail. Eventually, he won her over with his vitality and joie de vivre and they began dating. She was from the east of the country and he was from the north. They decided to move to Utrecht together as it was a central location with a great transport hub – it doesn’t hurt that it is also a picturesque city with countless canals and bridges running through it. We were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to shoot their engagement session starting in their lovely home before hitting the old streets of the city. For those of you that have never heard of Utrecht, you can find more information here: 24 Hours in this city.
Esther has done an incredible job with the layout of the place and has really transformed it into a perfect home workstation. They use a blackboard to chalk down key messages of the week.
Love, Leef, Learn in Utrecht
Today, the words love, leef (live in Dutch) and learn were written on the board. How can you not feel inspired in such an environment. Thank you for inviting us to Utrecht and into your homes and being wonderful tour guides. You can’t fault the Dutch for their great hospitality. Don’t ever change.
